Batten the hatches and up periscope!

I am off on my first creative venture!
The question is what is the nature of that undertaking? Surely, to set off right, I should steam full speed ahead out of port and dive straight into a huge project? But what would deem worthy enough for My Submarine to the Future’s maiden voyage?

I can feel that I am already beginning to stress about this.
Have I made a huge mistake even starting this blog? Am I setting myself up for a major (and very public) failure? Eek! Breathe. Breathe.

Ok, baby steps. Baby steps! It’s less about the final destination and more about the journey there.

With that in mind, I’ve decided that my maiden endeavor will be a small one. Two small ones, actually. Steady as she goes! The first, a culinary experiment, which I will take on and report back over time. The second, a weekend art distraction (details of which will follow later).

So, without further ado, on to our first port of call…

The Farmers Market

Whenever we go to the Farmers Market, or the grocery store, I always point out the different types of fruits and vegetables to my son. It’s a game we play. It started as a good distraction device, so that I could keep him entertained long enough to get our weekly shopping done, but ended up giving him a remarkable knowledge and curiosity for all things edible. (Good job mumma!)

I realized though that, despite my travels and fearless “I’ll try almost anything once” attitude, there are actually a lot of fruits and vegetables that I have either never tried, never cooked, or have no bleedin’ clue what on Earth they are!

Therefore, my new culinary challenge, is to take a "mysterious" fruit, or vegetable, a week and investigate it. Find out where it comes from, how it's grown and how to prepare it. Cook/ boil/ bake/ fry/peel/roast/steam/whatever is required and eat it.... hopefully all without poisoning myself.

Starting with this….. ?

Hmmm.

  1. Always wondered what the hell those were or what they tasted like! Very intrigued, Jackie. Oh, and don't talk yourself out of the adventure.....you just might end up inspiring someone. ;-)
